What is Taekwondo?

This Korean martial art originated from Korea in the late 1940s. It borrows its style from Japanese and Chinese martial arts but is mostly focused on kicks. Movements like spinning and overhead kicks are common moves utilised by taekwondo practitioners. Taekwondo has spread across the world with much popularity and has been recognised as an Olympic sport since 2000. Much like other East Asian martial arts, progression is represented through different coloured belts.

What Colour Belts Are There in Taekwondo?

In Taekwondo, the most basic and the first belt given is the white belt. In this martial art, 'stripes' or 'tips' of another colour will be given as the next level of progression before changing the colour of belt. Basically, two levels of examinations are needed before advancing to the next coloured belt. The most advanced level of progression is the black belt. It requires almost 9 months for a black belt to ba attained from the previous level of red and black striped belts.
