    Additional recommended products
Forclaz Rain overtrousers for protecting the lower body to complete an effective rain protection outfit designed for mountain walks. Care products: waterproof spray or wash-in waterproof liquid, to restore the fabric's water repellent properties and optimise your garment's performance throughout its lifetime.
    8
    Waterproof component
We measure a fabric's resistance to water pressure by the height of a water column in mm that can be supported by the fabric (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure, the higher the waterproof rating of the fabric. Components with a 2000 mm waterproof rating can support the pressure of a 2000 mm column of water which is equivalent to a rain shower lasting two hours.
    9
    Waterproof garment
This garment was passed following a 3-hour shower test under 100 L of water/m²/hr. This test reproduces the conditions of a violent storm in the mountains.
    10
    Breathable component
In addition to the breathability of the fabrics used, Quechua develops technical solutions (zips, ventilation, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of all its jackets and overtrousers designed for long-distance hiking use (Forclaz, Bionnassay and Helium lines). These ventilation systems regulate the temperature inside the garment and help eliminate the perspiration generated by the body during exercise.
    11
    Membrane or coated component
The coating is like a layer of "paint" applied on the underside of the fabric to make it waterproof while remaining breathable. It is often less costly than a membrane, and requires a lining for protection. The membrane is like a very fine plastic film (polyurethane) making the component waterproof while remaining breathable. It has the advantage of being more flexible, lightweight and durable, and often more breathable than a coating.
    12
    3-layer, 2-layer or 2.5-layer component
3 layers: the membrane is bonded between the outer and inner layer of the component. This construction prolongs the life of the membrane and enhances the component's performance. 2 layers: the membrane is only bonded to the outer fabric, while the inner protective lining is loose. This construction costs less but is generally more cumbersome. 2.5 layers: the membrane is protected on the inside by a kind of varnish coating rather than an actual layer to make it as lightweight as possible
    13
    Water-repellent component
A fabric's water repellent property is its capacity to repel water so that it runs off its surface. This prevents the fabric from absorbing water and keeps it lightweight, breathable and warm. A fabric is made water repellent by applying a treatment to its outer surface. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (with every 3 washes). All the Quechua waterproof jackets have received a water-repellent treatment.
    14
Comparison between the environmental impact of the products
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over the entire lifecycle of the product using different indicators. An overall ABCDE rating is given to help you easily identify the most eco-friendly products by comparing similar products to each other (t-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc). Decathlon is committed to displaying environmental information. For further information: http://sustainability.decathlon.com/

    Product test
Quechua is based at the foot of Mont Blanc, in Haute-Savoie (France). All year round, our design teams create and develop products that are appealing, simple, and technologically advanced. These are then ruthlessly tested in the field in collaboration with our technical partners and mountain professionals. We remain convinced that only through rigorous testing under real world conditions, like the ones you will be using them in, can we continue to provide you with better products than ever.

    Stockage tips
Always make sure that this waterproof protective garment is completely dry before storing it.

    Maintenance tips
Wash at 30°C. Use liquid detergent, do not add fabric conditioner. Fasten zips and rip-tabs before washing. With each wash, renew the fabric's water repellent properties using a suitable treatment. All our Decathlon stores offer a complete range of products specially designed to care for water-resistant and breathable fabrics. These products will help you optimise your garment's performance throughout its lifespan.

These ventilation systems can be used to regulate the temperature inside the garment as well as eliminate the perspiration generated by the body during physical activity.

It is often less costly than a membrane, and requires a lining for protection. The membrane is a kind of very fine plastic film (polyurethane) that makes the component waterproof and maintains its breathability. It has the advantage of being more flexible, lightweight, durable and often more breathable than the coating.

      • A fabric is water repellent when it allows water to slide over its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight, breathable and warm. The water repellent feature is obtained by a treatment applied on the outer surface of the fabric. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (recommended after every three washes). All the Quechua waterproof jackets have received a water-repellent treatment.
