Between age one and six, children's feet play an important role in their development and growth. Our shoes address the specific needs of children's feet during their many development stages.
How to choose your child's shoes
From age one to two (shoe sizes 4 to 7): starting and learning to walk. Their feet are flat, round and chubby: our I LEARN shoes are extremely flexible to support children's natural development. From age three to six (sizes 8 to 1): mastery of walking, running and jumping. Their feet get stronger and slimmer while the arch begins to develop: our I MOVE shoes are flexible and support the heel.
Characteristics of children's feet at ages 3 to 6
For children ages three to six who run and jump, you should choose a shoe that protects their feet while also offering good freedom of movement. Domyos I MOVE shoes provide greater support at the back of the foot. Children at this age are still developing (growing bigger and stronger) and increasing their physical activity (more intense and longer). They need more support and protection.
Choosing the right shoe size
Children's feet grow the fastest between age one and three. Be sure to regularly check their shoe size using a foot gauge in our stores or on our website from the "How to choose the right size" section
Is arch support necessary?
We all start out with flat feet as babies. Once we begin to walk, the arch gradually develops through the natural development of our foot muscles. This is why children do not need arch support in their shoes when they are still growing (unless otherwise indicated by a health care professional).
The benefits of physical activity at a young age
Regularly doing physical activity from as young age as possible is good for a child's physical and mental development. It helps establish a good lifestyle habit which will reduce the risk of health problems later on in life. Furthermore, doing a group physical activity with others encourages social integration and contributes to a child's personal development.
