A SOURCE OF
Waterproofing of the garment
This garment was validated in a shower test using 60 L/sqm/hr of water for 2 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a rain shower. The fabric of this jacket is water-repellent, which means water runs off the surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from becoming waterlogged, and keeps it lightweight and breathable. A fabric is made water repellent by applying a treatment to its outer surface. We have also taped ALL of the seams.
How to ensure your jacket stays waterproof over time
In order to maintain good waterproofing over time, the fabric's water repellent properties must be regularly reactivated. We recommend doing this every three washes or after a dozen uses in the rain. The waterproof property can be easily restored by heating the fabric: either in your tumble dryer or with a hair dryer, for example, over a relatively short period. If you are washing it, it must be thoroughly rinsed.
Waterproof rating expressed in mm or schmerber
A fabric's resistance is measured using water pressure expressed in terms of the height of a water column in mm (test based on ISO 811) The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A fabric with a waterproof rating of 2000mm is therefore resistant to the pressure exerted by a 2000mm column of water.
The hood can be adjusted in height using a drawstring. It can be adjusted in depth thanks to a velcro tab at the back of the hood. The hood has a shape memory visor for good protection of the face.
To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its total evaporative resistance (RET) based on the ISO 11092 standard. The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour generated by physical activity evaporates, and the higher the fabric's breathability. - RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric 9 < RET < 12 = very breathable fabric 12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric RET > 20 = little or no breathability
How to choose your waterproof jacket based on your outings and level of exertion
During a sporting activity, you perspires to varying degrees, depending on the intensity or length of the effort. If the fabric's breathability is not suited to the type of activity/exercise, your perspiration will condense inside the jacket. You feel damp inside: this isn't rain getting through, but condensation from sweat. You therefore need to choose a rain jacket according to your type of physical activity. This jacket is designed for 2-hour hikes at no more than 5km/hr.
The jacket lining is made up of two materials: mesh in the back to improve the garment's breathability and nylon at the hips to maximise ease of movement and resistance to wear. We have used an ultra-soft fabric on the hood for added comfort.
A comprehensive pocket system
The jacket has seven pockets in total! 2 pockets on the sides to keep your hands warm. 2 large, gusseted outer pockets with flap and press stud fastening. 1 outer chest pocket and 1 inside pocket, both closed with a zip to secure your belongings. 1 inside net pocket for your gloves, for example, to keep them warm against your body!
A score for comparing products' environmental impact
On a scale from A to E, this jacket scored a C. Our products' environmental impact is calculated over their entire life cycle. A rating from A to E is given to help you easily identify products with the best environmental performance by comparing and contrasting products of the same type (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks). Decathlon actively promotes this environmental rating initiative. For more information, go to: https://youtu.be/8t63KkRwn_8
