This sole’s design is the result of long-term research carried out in our labs. We favoured a specific rubber formula which optimises grip and resistance. Since requirements differ for every person, we systematically seek the best compromise for hiking on off-road trails with loose ground, such as forest trails.
Our hiking shoes are designed for use on off-road trails. We choose the components of the sole and upper of our boots and test them to ensure that they are ideally suited to walking on loose trails (e.g. unpaved forest paths) or rocky trails (e.g. rocky coastal paths). Road use (tarmac) may lead to premature wear on your shoes and cause discomfort. They are not suitable for mountain hiking.
Tested in the laboratory and in the field, shoes equipped with a membrane ensure optimal water-resistance and breathability. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of water-resistance: 2000 bends, about 2 hours of hiking - 4000 bends, about 4 hours of hiking - 8000 bends, approximately 8 hours of hiking The NH150 women's Mid WP shoes have been lab tested with 2000 bends. They are then waterproof for 2 hours of hiking. Of course, as soon as the shoes are dry, they recover their original water-resistance.
We advise that you use a waterproofing spray several times per year, to restore the original water-repellency and to prevent staining.
Laboratory tests are conducted to test the following elements: secure attachment of eyelets and straps, gluing, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of the sole and the components of the upper, accelerated ageing. These tests allow us to improve the quality of our products and prevent premature wear of our hiking shoes.
Try both shoes on, standing up, wearing the socks you use for hiking. Try several models, several sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: - the heel seat - the front of the foot when going downhill Avoid all compression points when trying on. Feel free to walk around the store. Break in your shoes gradually on your first few hikes to adapt them to your foot.
There are multiple factors which may cause blisters when you are walking: rubbing, a crease in the sock, moisture, a shoe size that is too small or too big, etc. It is therefore important to choose the right size and to have socks made of the right material for your walking shoes.
You need to choose the right sock size for your foot to avoid any additional creasing in the sock: either because the sock is too big and there is too much fabric around your foot, or because the sock is too small and is pulled towards the inside of the shoe.
Moisture must be effectively managed when walking: We all perspire, it’s bound to happen. If your shoe is breathable, it will wick away the moisture from your perspiration. You therefore need to choose a light and breathable sock as well. If your boots are relatively waterproof, you will not make the same choice to protect you from the moisture of the rain: you need to opt for a sock which will absorb your perspiration then wick it as far away as possible from your foot.
Although the waterproof membrane of these shoes is breathable, they do not wick away the moisture of your perspiration as effectively as a ventilated shoe. You should opt for the NH100 high socks: they contain moisture-absorbing cotton and have a reverse terry-knit construction under the sock that wicks moisture away from your foot. They are high enough to protect your ankle from the shoe. It is an excellent combination to reduce the chance of blisters.
Our hiking shoes are guaranteed for 2 years. Our commitment? To offer you long-lasting products that you can use on all your off-road hikes and walks. Because the products we like the most are those with a story behind them that is still continuing!
We advise you to store your shoes in a place away from moisture and light and, if possible, with ventilation.
Our design team conceives, plans and designs Quechua products in France, at the foot of Mont Blanc. We test them in the field with other hikers to make sure that they are comfortable and durable. The Forest of Fontainebleau or in Brittany for example. We walk on as many different footpaths as possible, in all weather conditions. This provides us with a great opportunity to discuss things, enabling us to obtain your feedback and prepare our future products!
