    1
    Crosscontact sole
The sole design is the product of a lengthy research and development process conducted in our laboratories, combined with a special rubber formulation to optimise grip and traction. Given the range of different needs, we are always seeking the best compromise for walking on both wet and dry terrain.
    2
    Waterproofing test
Footwear waterproofing test: these boots, which have been tested in the laboratory and the field, have a breathable, waterproof membrane for optimum protection in the rain. First, the boot is immersed in water while the air pressure inside is increased to check that no bubbles form on the surface. They are half immersed and then placed on a mechanical arm that simulates walking: we then check that the inside of the shoe remains perfectly dry.
    3
    Waterproofing level
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2,000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4,000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8,000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once dry. The Forclaz 500 waterproof passes the 8000 flexes test.
    4
    Prolonging the waterproof properties
A shoe's waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. To keep your feet dry for longer, we recommend wearing waterproof gaiters or mini-gaiters to protect the top part of the boots and prevent water, pebbles, sand, etc. from getting inside. To restore the original water repellent properties and prevent staining the outer surface, spray with a waterproof spray several times per year.

    Buying tips
Try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Always walk around the store. Wear your shoes in gradually during the first hikes, to mould them to your foot.
    6
What shoe size should I choose?
For hiking, try taking one shoe size up from your usual to ensure optimum comfort when going downhill and to prevent your toes from hitting the toe box. Tip: before any descent, make sure that your toe nails are clipped and that your laces are tightened so that your feet cannot slide forwards in the boot.

    Technical Information
      • CrossContact is the Decathlon label that ensures our soles have good grip. To benefit from this the shoe must pass laboratory tests to evaluate the grip rating on different surfaces (Smooth, Rough, Dry, Wet). To validate these tests, we have the quality of our soles assessed over 500 km on the ground and in the mountains by a representative panel of testers
      • In laboratories, the shoe is placed in water up to mid-upper level, on a mechanical arm that simulates a number of steps. Thanks to this test, we can determine the number of km (x steps) that the shoe can make while remaining dry. Then we confirm in real conditions, in the field and under the rain, that the shoes meet expectations.
      • A boot's waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. To keep your feet dry for longer, we recommend wearing waterproof gaiters or mini-gaiters to protect the top part of the boots and prevent water, pebbles, sand, etc. from getting inside. • If you haven't used the product or it is unsuitable for the sport you have in mind, you have 365 days to exchange it or get a refund in all Decathlon stores.

Tip: Before any descent, make sure your nails are cut and check that your laces are tightened to prevent your foot from sliding forward in the shoe.
      • To choose the correct boot: 1. Try on both boots, while standing, with the socks worn for hiking. 2. Tighten the laces correctly 3. Check two important comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. 4. Stand up and walk around with the shoes on. 5. Try several sizes and styles. 6. Gradually wear in your shoes over the course of a few hikes so that they conform to your feet.
